WLAC have been working hard to protect, preserve, and promote the Wattandee Culture.
We follow in the footsteps of those Elders and Ancestors before us.
Check out the great work we do for our Country and Culture.
WLAC Elders Connect is an important event for our community as this
event gives us an opportunity to celebrate, love and heal our Elders
Elders Connect Day also allows our elders an opportunity to reconnect with country and culture as well as offering guidance and direction to the community and our corporation.
At the Elders Connect day we offer an opportunity to our Elders and
Community members to share there stories and have them recorded so
we are able to create educational material for future generations.
Wattandee welcome to country and smoking ceremonies are offered to government departments, corporations, community groups and businesses who are operating on Wattandee Country.
Participant s will engage with Tribal Owners and understand the importance of these cultural practices and why we continue to practice them today.
WLAC offer cultural awareness training to government departments, corporations, community groups and businesses who are operating on Wattandee country.
Our training offers our participants and opportunity to amerce themselves into the Wattandee culture and heritage and understand the importance of our connection to country and our sacred sites
Wattandee Dance Group continues to practice cultural and contemporary dancing and performs at all WLACs Community events and programs.
Our Wattandee dancers continue to represent our beautiful culture through song and
dance.
The group varies on numbers depending on events, programs and availability
Contact us if you would like to get involved
WLAC have been working behind the scenes to begin reviving the Wattandee Language.
WLAC will follow cultural protocols, developing a Wattandee Language Group involving our Elders to focus on the revival of our language
WLAC will continue promoting our culture and language through our
engagement with Mingenew Primary School and soon Dongara District School.
WLAC have been working to develop our Wattandee Rangers in partnership with NACC.
In 2019 Thomas Cameron reached out to NACC to make a connection and find out how NACC could support WLAC to develop our own rangers.
With many conversations and emails WLAC were able to host The Midwest Aboriginal Regional Meeting on Wattandee Country in May 2023.
This day gave NACC the opportunity to see what it is we wanted in our partnership moving forward and gave WLAC an insight into the Midwest Aboriginal Ranger Program.
The partnership between WLAC and NACC and the Midwest Aboriginal Ranger Program will potentially see opportunities for our people to reconnect with country and culture and care for country.
